Meet Shona
The Movement Room was an idea born after our Founder, Shona Cawley overcame a life changing diagnosis of Cervical Cancer. Prior to diagnosis, Shona was already passionate about exercise and movement and had experienced the many benefits this had on her mental health and overall wellbeing. It was during physical rehabilitation after intensive treatment and multiple surgeries where Shona found her love for Pilates. She had experienced it as a safe and effective form of exercise in gaining back strength and mobility. Pilates really empowered and healed Shona and helped her gain back her independence, so she has huge trust and belief in it.
Post treatment, Shona felt isolated and longed for a place that could be her sanctuary. A place where someone understood what she was going through. A place where she could move her body in a safe and nurturing environment. Although trauma comes in many shapes and sizes, the feelings that come from it are often the same, so Shona wanted to give back and create a space where people could come and feel nurtured, move their bodies, and connect back into themselves.
Shona is a Movement and Wellbeing Enthusiast and has a passion for holistic health. She would love to share the joy these things bring to her life, with you. Shona has trained with Stott Pilates for Reformer, The Method for Barre and is a BASI Mat Certified instructor. Shona would love to build a community of like-minded people who see their own self-care not as a ‘nice to have’, but rather, a necessity.
